Frequently asked questions

What does “pure vegetarian” mean?

A pure vegetarian restaurant serves vegetarian food only. There are no meat, fish, seafood or egg dishes anywhere on the menu, and the kitchen does not prepare non-vegetarian food. Dairy products are included, in line with the common Indian usage of “pure veg”.

Are eggs considered vegetarian on PureVeg?

No. PureVeg follows the strict Indian definition of vegetarian, which excludes eggs. Restaurants that serve egg dishes are not listed as pure vegetarian.

How is PureVeg different from other restaurant directories?

Most directories list restaurants that offer some vegetarian dishes alongside meat. PureVeg only lists restaurants whose entire menu is vegetarian, so strict vegetarians don't have to worry about mixed kitchens. It is also independent and ad-free — restaurants cannot pay to be listed or ranked.

How does PureVeg verify that a restaurant is pure vegetarian?

Each listing carries a label. “Verified” means PureVeg checked the restaurant against public information such as its own menu and website. “Claimed” means the restaurant describes itself as pure vegetarian. “Community” means a diner suggested it and it has not yet been checked. No label is a guarantee — menus can change, so confirm with the restaurant before visiting.

What does the Jain Friendly tag mean?

It means the restaurant is reported to offer dishes suitable for Jain diners, typically prepared without onion, garlic or root vegetables. Jain requirements vary between individuals, so always confirm preparation details with the restaurant.

Which cities and countries does PureVeg cover?

PureVeg covers around 100 cities across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, Australia and Africa, with a focus on pure vegetarian Indian restaurants outside India. Coverage grows as new restaurants are verified or suggested.

Why isn't a well-known vegetarian-friendly restaurant listed?

If a restaurant serves any meat, fish or egg dishes, it is excluded by design — even if its vegetarian food is excellent. PureVeg only lists vegetarian-only kitchens.

A listing is wrong — how do I report it?

Use the suggestion and correction form at pureveg.xyz/suggest. Reports that a listed restaurant serves non-vegetarian food, or has closed, are re-checked with priority and the listing is corrected or removed.

I own a listed restaurant. How do I update or remove my listing?

Use the same form at pureveg.xyz/suggest and mention that you are the owner. You can request detail updates, a reclassification, or removal.

Is PureVeg free? Does it run ads?

Browsing the directory is free and there is no advertising. Restaurants cannot pay for placement. The optional “Is This Veg?” photo scanner offers free scans, with additional scans available as a paid top-up.
